A Home Spa Setup: How to Pamper Yourself during COVID-19 by Sarah Smith

The quarantine we have all found ourselves in doesn’t do much good for our mental health and relaxation.
The stress we have been under makes us more sensitive and in need of pampering our selves. When you think about it, that’s all you can do right now – stay at home as much as you can and be gentle to yourself.
As you can’t pay a visit to a spa and relax there, here are some guidelines on how to prepare yourself a home spa and decompress at least for a while.

Treat your dry skin

As you probably spend a lot of time inside, your skin probably went dry because you’re not outside in the fresh air enough.
A milk bath is a great way to give your skin the hydration it has lost. Fill the tub with warm water, add a bit of essential oil of your choice, and a spoon of honey. Then pour 4 cups of milk into the bath and stir it well. It doesn’t matter whether you use skim or whole milk. Enjoy inside the bath until water cools down, then take a shower. If Cleopatra used to enjoy it, no reason why you shouldn’t.

Pamper your hands and feet

Many professional spas perform paraffin treatments, but you can do one at home and surprise your hands and feet, which are usually forgotten and pretty dry.
Get around four ounces of paraffin wax, an ounce of oil (olive, jojoba, or coconut), and hand oil. Melt paraffin and the ounce of oil in a double boiler, then carefully pour it into a glass jar and wait until you the surface of wax has thickened. The temperature should not be warmer than 125 F.

If the temperature is fine, wash your hands and make sure they are completely dry.
Dip each hand into the wax several times (at least five times). Let somebody put plastic wrap around your arms and then relax for 30 minutes. You can keep a towel around your hands, too, to keep the warmth inside.
When it’s done, peel off the wax, starting from your wrists. You should keep that wax in plastic so that you can use it again. Repeat the process with your feet.

Piece and quiet

When inside your home, it’s important to get yourself peace and quiet that you need, especially if you want to treat yourself with a home-made spa.
For ultimate peace not interrupted by the outside noises, it’s best to install double glazed windows because they are better at reducing the annoying outside noises (not to mention they make it easier for you to maintain the temperature you want inside your home for more comfort).
Once you’re free of the noise, put on some relaxing tunes because music is a very powerful tool when you need to shake off the stress and enjoy your spa day or evening.

Facial massage

Facial massage is a great way to relax and improve blood circulation in your cheeks. You’ll fall asleep more easily if you release the tension in your facial muscles.

Take a bath

A bubble bath is a great way to let go of worries and to decompress for a while. Add magnesium bath salt to spoil your skin and, help your muscles recover and prevent any muscle spasms. A couple of drops of essential oil will put you in a great mood for sleeping, which is why a relaxing spa bath is recommended to be done in the evening.

Light candles

The smell is one of the senses that relaxes you the most if you indulge it with beautiful fragrances.
Spas often use natural scents in their treatments, especially lavender, to help the clients relax more. You can easily recreate this smell with a few aromatherapy candles. It’s best to go for non-toxic candles made of natural ingredients and all you have to do next is to light them up and enjoy.

Treat yourself with bubbles

A cold glass of a bubbly drink really takes you away from the current events and makes it easier to let go of your worries, at least for a while.
beverages like prosecco and champagne are perfect – they have that festive and relaxing tone, which is exactly what you need.

If you would prefer something non-alcoholic, that’s perfect, too. Beverages like hot chocolate or herbal tea are great to tuck you in before the bed and to soothe your worries.

All in all

During times like these, it’s important to take care of yourself. Pampering yourself is perfectly ok – it is a way to show some love for your body and mental health, and that’s one of the things that boost your immune system.
