It’s well known that marriage can be a challenge at times. There are seasons where everything feels easy and seasons where you both might struggle. The important thing is to remember your commitment to one another and work towards strengthening and building up your relationship. Going to counseling of course is always most helpful, but sometimes you just need to find a few more fun ways to regularly bolster your marriage. The following five ideas are an excellent way to make sure you are keeping your relationship healthy.

1.  Play Marriage and Couples Games

Marriage or couples games might sound lame or silly, but they can actually be a lot of fun and super helpful. Items like the couples gift challenge list can give you fun ideas, activities, and questions you can ask your spouse regularly. People can tend to get stuck in a rut and think they know everything about their spouse, but really they just aren’t asking the right questions. Activities and games like that can get you out of old ruts and spice up your relationship.

2. Go to a Conference

Marriage conferences can be a transformational experience for your relationship. Not only do you get to have focused time with each other, but you have plenty of time to learn from different speakers and workshops at conferences. These experiences often have built-in activities to help you use the new information you are learning. It’s a great way to have a getaway with your spouse and also attain some helpful information and skills to bring back with you.

3. Start a New Hobby Together

Finding a new hobby to start together is an amazing way to deepen your relationship with your spouse. You may have had old hobbies you used to do together, but life and circumstances might have made those more difficult to continue. You could always try to start an old hobby back up, but sometimes learning something completely new to both of you can be more of an opportunity to bond. Not only do you get to do something you both enjoy and have fun with, but when you start something new together it is a wonderful opportunity to grow closer.

The important thing is to find something you both want to do and invest in. It could be as simple as gardening or as outrageous as learning how to skydive. Really your imagination is the only limit. Have fun finding something that interests you both to try together.

4. Learn Their Love Language

Another fun way to invest in your marriage is to learn your partner’s love language. There’s a whole book on the subject by Gary Chapman, but there are also many free online quizzes to help you and your significant other determine what your love language is. It can be super fun to discover just what makes your spouse feel loved the most. It could be touch, gifts, acts of service, words of affirmation, or quality time. Once you know what your spouse needs the most, you can work on building each other up.

5. Plan Regular Date Nights

Last but certainly not least, you need to make sure you are scheduling regular date nights. If you can manage it, try to schedule one weekly. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, although doing extra special outings on occasion definitely keeps it interesting. It can be as simple as pizza delivery and a Netflix movie on your tv at home. The important thing is that you have focused on hanging out just with each other, and without an agenda. If you don’t have a babysitter you can call on regularly, you can always get creative and trade child care with another couple you know.

Growing and investing in your marriage should be a wonderful part of your life. Trying some of these suggestions is sure to help you improve your relationship. Have fun with it and discover new things about your spouse and your relationship along the way.
