Everyday chaos can easily make us distracted and forget about ourselves. Although it’s important to take care of our loved ones and to perform our duties at work, it is even more important to take care of ourselves.
You shouldn’t lose sight of who you are and what you enjoy – you need to dedicate some time for yourself during the day to be able to face the challenges of life. Show yourself some love through these tips:

1. Unplug

Electronics and social media create an unnecessary buzz in your mind.
Set a specific time of the day when you will simply switch off your phone and laptop and simply be. You can enjoy your coffee, go for a walk or simply daydream by the window – whatever relaxes you. Just make sure nothing and no one interrupts you.

2. Meditate

Meditation will help you balance your mind and learn how to enjoy the moment. You will find peace of mind more easily. Meditation can also help you reduce anxiety, depression, and pain. Just five minutes of meditation a day can do wonders for your mental state and mood. Don’t overthink it – just try.

3. Enjoy your coffee

Coffee is the most favorite hot beverage of many people, and if you’re one of them, then make a ritual out of it.
Try just enjoying your coffee, completely alone. Make your perfect cup of coffee and focus on its smell and taste. Don’t let anything distract you – this ritual will prepare you for the rest of the day.

4. Get creative

Go and create something – it doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to be your honest expression. Write, draw, sculpt, color in a coloring book – and don’t care about how it turns out. The point is to find a filter for your emotions and to express your inner state of mind.

5. Enjoy the outdoor

Nature and fresh air have a soothing effect on people. Even if you can’t find the time to go to the park, take a walk through a forest or hike in the mountain, you can simply get out into your backyard.

Create a private space inside the backyard where you can be alone and relax. Consider a pergola roof installation to ensure you’re protected from the sun and precipitation and decorate the space with plants and flowers. You will feel closer to nature and you will find it easier to silence your mind.

6. Put your thoughts onto paper

When you feel stressed out and overwhelmed, it helps sometimes to write down your thoughts, feelings, and worries. Let your mind take you wherever it wants – you will be surprised by what you’ll see on the paper. Writing all your thoughts down can help you get rid of your anxiety or fear. It will also give you another perspective and may even help you find a solution.

7. Do some window shopping

Even if you don’t have the budget for shopping right now, nothing stops you from strolling down the street or at the mall, looking at shop windows.
Shopping releases dopamine, which is responsible for feelings of satisfaction and pleasure, and window shopping doesn’t have a very different effect. Even scrolling through online stores for a few minutes can improve your mood.

8. Take a nap

When you feel like it, just get in your bed under the covers and have real rest. If you have the time, sleep. If not, even 10 minutes of nap can be refreshing for your body and mind. People don’t take a nap often enough.

9. Relax in the bathroom

Make your bathroom your sanctuary, especially if you’re a parent. Parents rarely have time for themselves, so being able to enjoy a long, warm bath accompanied by relaxing music can seem like a short holiday. Simply lock the door behind you and read a book, listen to music, or enjoy a glass of wine.

10. Use essential oils

Essential oils are known to improve mood and relax the mind. If you’re in need of a quick boost of mood, roll some essential oils on your wrists. Stop for a moment and take a deep, long breath. You’ll feel how the scent is calming you down and making you feel cheerful. You can use this trick literally anywhere – in the car, at the office, on the street.

11. Cuddle your pet

Pets are known to have a calming effect on people, so if you’re lucky to have a pet, turn to him/her when you need comfort and somebody to cheer you up. Cuddling with your pet is incredibly rewarding.

Final words

It’s not impossible to find some „me“ time. There are always a few minutes throughout the day that you can spend on yourself – don’t waste them.
