Please discribe yourself and your brand and its evolution in the past seasons.

I am a open minded guy which is very into aestethics. I love when thing are beautiful in life. I love nature, i would love being an indian in the woods, but I also love being a city dweller, living in a pulsing city! This is what I try to implement in my collections. I started my brand „Thomas Jakobson“ after finishing my studies at the university of arts in Zurich. Actually the socks & the bow ties were my work as bachelor degree at the university. So as I wanted to make it real, I took it further, created the brand, built up the supply chain in a sustainable way in Switzerland, so everything is close and trackable. And then I started with different crowdfundings to finance the first collections. And since then everything is growing very organic. Slow, but in a way I can handle it on my own. There is much more to come, but i think the most important is to stay myself true and to keep the innovation high. It’s about having the longer breath in this business, to stay fresh and creative.

Best and toughest part of designing a menswear collection.

The best thing is to see how your ideas turn into real pieces! And second best thing is how your pieces make people smile, the most important thing in design. Make people happy with bright and fresh pieces of Thomas Jakobson. The toughest part is for sure to set this mixture between the pieces I myself love and the pieces that are adored by the big crowd and somehow find a way to feel good.

What sources of inspiration are your biggest influence?

Mostly I watch people in my everyday life. How are they wearing their outfits, what are they doing, how are they bevahing on the streets and in the nature? Alos I am a lot inspired by the music I listen. It’s not always the same music, sometimes it is classical sounds, then it is a fresh electro remix and another time it is hip hop, which formed me in my early teenager-years. But also my travels are inspiring, I love to travel very simple, with no money just hitchhiking around Europe, which is a great contrast to life in the fashion industry.

What was your favorite collection so far?

My favourite collection so far was the Spring Summer 2017 collection. It was inspired by a day on the boat. You could see the waves on the ocean, classic navy stripes, ropes and the birds over the rising sun. The colours were so fresh and slight, it gave me and the customers hope and the good feeling around the sea! But actually I always love the actual collection the most, it tells a lot about my current situation and how I feel at the moment.

How much of your success do you credit to the education you had?

My education at the Zurich university oft he arts was very important form e. I learned how to manage my ideas, my creativity and how the get into it with the perfect concept. I would say this was a milestone of my life!

What genre of music best describes your collection?

The genre oft he actual collection „urban candy“ is a fresh mix of summery lounge sounds. But actually normally it is mostly hip hop, as this genre paved my way for a long time in my life! The soundtrack for last summer was a french riviera sound with remixes of french classic songs: Listen here: https://soundcloud.com/happy_sound/sets/french-classic-remix The sound is mostly also how I feel and which desires I have at the moment while designing the socks and the bow ties!

How do you choose your models for your shows and campaigns?

Normally I would watch in my circle of friends and see if there is somebody that would fit. But mostly then I am looking for friends of friends in the friend lists of my community on facebook. But actually there were already people fromm y home city Bern, which I met on the road o rat the traun station. In th last winter campaign there was a guy which I found in the train station and just stopped him and asked if he would be part oft he team! He said yes, and the shots were great with him!!

Do you have any favorite male models?

Nope. I am kust looking that I can manage to choose my models as diverse as possible, old, young, black, white, tall, short, male, female… My collections are for everybody, girls boys, men, women, hetero, homo, any race, any gender!

Where do you plan to take your brand next?

I have to think of how I can evolue my brand into new fields. I would love to design other items such as hats, tshirts, bags or unisex shirts! The thing for me is, that I just want to make colourful matching pieces that fit anybody on this planet and makes the wearers happy!

Beside fashion – do you have any special talents?

Yes, I have on big talent: I am good in making fire. This helps me on my trips in nature and on the roads of Europe.
