Interview to: Regina Polanco, PYRATES smart fabrics founder
1. Please describe your brand and its evolution in the past seasons.
Pyrates has always been centered around sports & wellbeing, striving to offer superior comfort with every piece it creates.
Even though our brand has evolved from a more „sporty“ aesthetic into a more „urban“ athleisure one, our brand ethos has remained unchanged, maintaining an elegance and simplicity in its designs which makes them timeless.
2. Best and toughest part of designing a menswear collection.
Our collections are unisex, the best part of which, as well as the toughest, is being able to create pieces that both genders will find elegant, timeless, and will want to integrate as key day to day pieces into their wardrobe.
3. What sources of inspiration are your biggest influence?
Pyrates‘ biggest source of inspiration is nature, the place everything stems from, and the endless possibilities for nurturing it offers.
4. What was your favorite collection so far?
I couldn’t choose, they all have their reason to be and are an evolution adapted to the trends at the time they were created. I think Gea, our latest one, has a more fashionable touch, which makes it more desirable and wearable.
5. How much of your success do you credit to the education you had?
Most of my knowledge I have acquired through work. As far as education goes, I’ve learnt nothing comes easy and things take time, you have to be persistent.
6. What genre of music best describes your collection?
Any genre that soothes the listener and makes them feel wholesome and good, just as our fabrics do the wearer, could describe our collection. Music and the way it makes people feel is so personal and unique to each individual, just as our pieces become personal to each wearer in their own way.
7. How do you choose your models for your shows and campaigns?
Our brand is centered around wellbeing, so looking healthy and fit is important for us. But wellbeing goes beyond the body, so we always look for models that will convey a confident, healthy energy beyond their physical look.
8. Do you have any favorite male models?
I believe any health conscious man who takes the time to care for their mind and body would be a model to admire and follow.
9. Where do you plan to take your brand next?
Our next step is to expand our presence in physical stores, but also into new markets, like the US, where we are sure people would be interested in taking care of their body with our fabrics.
