Hello! Thank you for taking the time to ask me about myself and my music. I’m Chris, also known as Black Marble.
Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
My new album comes out October 23rd on Sacred Bones Records. It’s titled “Fast Idol.” I’m touring the UK in the end of October and then I’ll be coming back and doing a longer European tour next Spring.
Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!
- You can listen to my albums if you want to know about my art, as I feel it’s someone else job to interpret. But here are 5 things about me as a person:
- I wanted to be a magician as a kid.
- I have a big box of thrift store ties in my closet, but I haven’t worn a tie in 10 years.
- When I was 18 I went to jail for stealing car stereos with my friends. I made somewhat of a name for myself there, drawing other inmates girlfriends and wives using a lone pencil smuggled to me by a priest.
- I used to live in a punk house in Brooklyn where I learned how to sew, and have since been altering all my own clothes.
- When I first moved to New York, I went to a rooftop party on New Years and fell through a skylight. Luckily my shirt caught on a hook and saved me, but I would have fallen 8 stories to my death.

Beside music, do you have any special talents?
I won a national poetry contest when I was nine. I was in catholic school so the poem was about the Virgin Mary.
Being on stage feels like….!
In the early days being on stage felt like having to recite something for class that you hadn’t totally memorized… Stressful. I was just praying not to mess up. It can still be nerve wracking, but over time I’ve come to enjoy it. Interestingly, I like it more the bigger the crowds get. I guess it helps to have more people clapping.
How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??
I taught myself everything. I learned keyboards first because it seemed like something you could do without any classical training. Next I learned bass because the band needed a bass player. I’d never sung before Black Marble, but I could stay in key so that seemed good enough. I was uncomfortable hearing my own voice at first, but that caused me to use more vocal effects which ended up sounding pretty cool.
