Rising rapper and producer duo Makola follow up reflective single ‘Crown’ with a fun-fueled expedition into London’s weekend party scene – ‚Champagne Monday‚.

Champagne Monday’ is a weekend-ready anthem that wastes no time in laying down its intention. Pete H’s ferocious production kicks off with a machine-gun drum fill and driven guitar riff that set the tone for the rest of the record. Full of elements that define Makola’s distinctive British sound, the track is carried by Kwame Mensah’s storming vocals with a powerful instrumental packed with an array of influences – from afrobeats to rock n‘ roll.

Discussing the track, Mensah explains, „We wanted to capture the collective optimism the nation feels when the weekend approaches. It’s all about putting your day job behind you and letting your hair down, living your best life in those few days until it reaches Sunday and it’s time to sober up. The flip-side is the struggle of the come down and waking up on Monday still a little wasted.“

The pair’s 2016 debut single ‘This Is London’ secured a spot on Apple Music’s ‘A-list’ and received support from BBC 1Xtra and Julie Adenuga on Beats 1 who hailed it as her „song of the summer„. Follow-up track ‘Black Man Statues’ was also playlisted by Mistajam and championed by Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart on Radio 1, as well as a securing a place on Spotify’s ‚Grime Shutdown‚ playlist.

‘Champagne Monday’ is a hedonistic anthem revealing the talented duo’s lighthearted side. Makola will be bringing in the weekend early at The Waiting Room for their headline show on the 12th February.
