Elska Magazine today releases the fourth in its series of male photography, culture and travel ‘bookazines’, the latest dedicated to Lisbon. This new issue introduces fifteen Lisbon gay men through photospreads of them taken in the city and in their homes, each local boy accompanied by a local story about their life in the city.

Lisbon, truly one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, makes a great contrast following the colder, more modern settings of the previous three issues: Reykjavík, Berlin, and Lviv. The warmer colour pallettes, the beaches, the hills, the crumbling old buildings and cobbled streets all bring a fresh look for the Elska collection; and the men, so proud of their city and so easy-going extend their welcome to readers.

The Lisbon men include both natives and long-time residents, with ages ranging from 23 to 47, giving a true representation of the city’s population, not just the ‘perfect’ men seen in most gay magazines. “We don’t seek out professional models for Elska”, says editor and founder Liam Campbell. “Instead we just go onto various sites and apps, such as Planet Romeo, Hornet, Grindr, Instagram, Facebook, etc. and started messaging whoever was online to see if people were up for a photoshoot. In Lisbon we had such a great response that we had to turn some guys down due to lack of time.”

The stories the guys wrote to accompany their images give a very intimate dimension, letting you get to know each guy. This combines with photography that is uncluttered with over-production, airbrushing or contrived styling. The men wear their own clothes, or sometimes pose nude, revealing their true selves and showing the reader that these pages are filled with real people, not just pictures.

Elska Magazine is sold in selected retailers worldwide or for order online. The 156-page Issue (04) Lisbon is available as a print or as a tablet/iPad version. A list of stockists and details of the subscription service can also be found on the Elska website, www.elskamagazine.com.
