Bishop Nehru takes the mantle on new track EMPEROR

Self-written and produced, EMPEROR’ sees Bishop go it alone to take the mantle and ascends from bubbling underground MC to one of the most talented young rappers working today. Emperor’s pop-driven theatrics exude a much lighter mood than previous single Too Lost, where Bishop confidently raps: “Killed the scene since a kid they should call it The Omen.”

EMPEROR was just a track that I was making specifically to have fun at lives shows,” says Bishop, adding: “I wanted to be able to have an energetic song everyone could just feel free to. When i was in the process of creating it the main thing I was thinking about after I finished the beat was ‘Wow this could be amazing if performed in a stadium’.

This track also comes with the news that Bishop’s UK/European tour has been postponed due to COVID-19 with new dates to be announced soon.

Bishop Nehru has been one of hip-hop’s most intriguing and prolific wunderkinds of recent time, after praise from Nas, Kendrick Lamar and DOOM as soon as he stepped onto the scene. Now, with this career defining new LP, ‘Nehruvia: My Disregarded Thoughts’, Bishop is ready to take a seat next to the peers that have been championing him for so long. “I’ve become way more comfortable making music, more confident than ever before in how I present my music,” he says. “Now, nobody is better than me.”
Due for release on May 8th 2020 independently, ‘Nehruvia: My Disregarded Thoughts’ sees Bishop take the reins as lead producer and enlists long-time collaborator DOOM on album highlight ‘meathead’, as well as DJ Premier for Too Lost.

Due for release last November, managerial disagreements led to the album being pushed back – but Bishop is eager to release this project to the world finally. “I came up with this project when I was in 8th grade and it’s been finished for almost a year now, so I just can’t wait for everyone to hear this.” The experience and acclaim he’s gained over the past decade have gifted him with the confidence and capability to fully realize the album that he’s always wanted to record

Divided into two acts—‘The Abyss’ and ‘The Escape’— ‘My Disregarded Thoughts’  is Bishop’s most ambitious, introspective and purposeful project to date and the culmination of ten years of personal and artistic growth. ‘The Abyss’ narrates the darker side of Bishop’s mind and life. Conversely, ‘The Escape’ features some of Bishop’s most upbeat tracks lyrically, as he leaves his darker thoughts behind.

“I came up with the title for this record before I’d even started making music,” says Bishop. “‘My Disregarded Thoughts’ was originally planned as the title of my first ever mixtape, but that never happened—the reason was, I wanted the project to be as eccentric as possible, but I needed to be in an artistically comfortable place to create that. Now I’m finally in that place, ten years later.”
Bishop remains grounded in classic boom-bap, astral jazz, spaced-out funk and the sample-heavy beats of Dilla and Madib—whilst showcasing new and previously unexplored facets of his singular creative vision, spearheaded by his new focus of lyrical storytelling. Rather than taking inspiration from other genre contemporaries, Bishop looks back to the music of the past (including Incubus and Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan) to create a confident, dexterous and unique sonic landscape.

The album will also accompany a UK & European tour, including shows in Bristol, Manchester and London. But Bishop is far from content: “I wanna be playing stadiums, but even then, I won’t be content. I don’t think I’ll ever be content.” Bishop’s hunger is only matched by his raw talent, and on ‘My Disregarded Thoughts’ he’s ready to take the mantle so many have predicted he will.
