A mysterious pop act known only as ASHS has emerged from Toronto’s underground music scene, bringing with her a fresh and eclectic sound that has garnered the praise of music influencers from around the globe. In an era of fake accounts, fake looks, and fake news, this young artist prefers to deviate from her peers, avoiding the spotlight and letting her music speak for itself. Last year, ASHS released her debut EP 3AM Pt. 1 spearheaded by her anthemic anti-love song, “More Than Friends” which was featured on Spotify’s Global Viral Top 50 chart and hit #3 on the US Viral Top 50 Chart. ASHS music examines relationships from all aspects, playing off the juxtaposition of buoyant pop melodies layered with sophisticated song writing, weighted by self- awareness and redemption. This initial collection of dark-pop songs were quickly embraced by tastemakers including, Mr. Suicide Sheep, The Line Of Best Fit, I Heart Mooziq and more. ASHS explores the depths volatile romance further with the release of 3AM Pt. 2, the follow up to her debut, released on March 8.
Although the artist herself continues to remain veiled, her lyrics reveal a relatable narrative – masterfully using the anonymity to express her vulnerability. ASHS explains,
“For the second half of 3AM, I wanted to really indulge in the deeper and darker parts of my subconscious, while still being honest and vulnerable. I think the best thing I can do as an artist is share where I am in that exact moment, and that’s what I chose to do with this EP. I was feeling crazy, angry, betrayed and numb, like I was in the passenger seat watching my life go by while I let everyone else drive my emotions and my worth. I brought that mix of emotion into to my writing, keeping no secrets as to what truly keeps me up at 3AM.”
