This year, everything will change. The Berlin-based Danish singer, songwriter and producer Asbjørn is spearheading a whole new, unencumbered generation of young pop artists: With his bold sound, the charismatic pop star is here to overhaul dusty male genre stereotypes and bring BOY POWER to the pop world, giving it a whole new look for 2018: Pøp 3.0!
Asbjørn makes pop with an important message. „I think it’s high time we guys reinvent pop music from our point of view. I want to show that there are an infinite number of ways to express one’s masculinity – without falling back into age-old stereotypes. We should finally throw all these gender prejudices overboard and be who we want to be”
With a focus on diversity and openness, Asbjørn’s music is alive, exciting and unpredictably catchy – ‘Nothing2Lose’ being the perfect example. Asbjørn says: “The track was written during the craziest summer of my life. Three intense months that felt like a single, incredible festival. Including wild parties, bad hangovers and all the highs and lows that are just part of it when you’re in love. There was nothing else around us but him and me. Together, we enjoyed the endless summer nights in Berlin and felt endlessly free. The lines have something timeless; this song is the soundtrack to an unforgettable life that I’ll never forget. „
Asbjørn’s story begins as a young boy, stood in his Danish home in front the mirror, performing his favourite songs and made-up choreography. He realised early-on the incredible power of pop music. Starting with pop icons from the 90s including Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys and Max Martin, via R&B behemoths such as Destiny`s Child, Missy Elliott and Timbaland, to melancholic modern electronic pop artists like Robyn and Lykke Li, Asbjørn draws multiple influences, which he interweaves into his unusual signature sound. At just 19, he founded his own label, where he independently released two highly acclaimed albums. Today, his videos command millions of views, with almost 40,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel.
Following recent live performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Reeperbahn Festival, Berlin Festival, London’s Ja Ja Ja Festival, and Electronic Beats Festival, the 25-year-old Scandinavian is set for another busy summer with lots of upcoming shows to be announced. He is currently working on his upcoming album ‘BOY PWR’.
