ANZU – dope new Track! – “(When I Was) Loving You”

anzu

Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are ANZU – an electronic music duo from Edmonton, AB, formed back in 2012 by Simon Belanger and Jesse Silkie. We spent the majority of 2017 writing and recording an abundance of new material that we’ve divided the best of into a series of EP’s. The first instalment, dubbed Without Love Vol. 1, will drop this Valentine’s Day but we couldn’t wait to give you a taste of it.“

„Without Love Vol. 1’s concept is built around various degrees of sampling mixed with live instrumentation, and “(When I Was) Loving You” was our first experiment with microsampling. Building a track out of a bunch of really short, unrecognizable samples and making something brand new out of them was a new challenge for us that helped us evolve our sound.

Our music is heavily inspired by French house music and incorporates elements of disco, electro, and synth-pop, so getting to work with Sam John was a perfect fit. Based out of London, England at Precise Mastering, he’s worked with the likes of Justice, Chemical Brothers, Robyn, and Boys Noize. Sam mastered Without Love Vol. 1 while we produced, recorded, and mixed the tracks ourselves. The album artwork was designed by Tallulah Fontaine, who’s also worked with fellow Edmontonians Purity Ring“
