Andro Astro – „Vamp Candy“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi, I’m Andro Astro. I’m a gender fluid musician making a mix of punk rap and dream pop and everything in between. I use they/them pronouns and I live in Brooklyn and I’m a Capricorn if you’re into that sort of thing.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I just released my latest pop punk style single “Vamp Candy” on June 4th. I worked with my good friend director Corey Koepper on the music video which is on YouTube. I’ve always been obsessed with vampires so it was a ton of fun to vamp up and run around the streets of Brooklyn, punk style. My next single, titled “Punx”, will be out this summer too and I think it might be the hardest song ever made. Can’t wait to perform them both live again.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I’m into making music that is enveloping, immersive, dreamy, rebellious, and romantic. I love collaborating and bringing people from different styles and backgrounds together.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I would say I aspire to be a mix of ASAP Rocky, David Bowie, and punk fashion. I’m into a blend of streetwear, glam elegant drag, and leather and spikes. It’s all fluid and it can change from day to day, but sometimes you can combine them like punk glam or punk streetwear etc. And that’s my music as well.

5. Do you have bad habits? A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?

Crushing too hard on people that aren’t available…but I’m better at that now haha. Guilty pleasure wise I’m playing NBA 2k and FIFA on the regular. I feel coffee is almost a guilty pleasure cause it gives me anxiety and there’s a crash but it tastes good!

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’m an actor and a filmmaker. I have a production company called Para Noir Pictures and we finished a film about a young musician struggling with fame called On The Floor. I acted in the main role and also did most of the original music. It meant a lot to me and you can watch the trailer online! Hoping to have it on a streaming platform soon and hope to make a feature next.

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Home, in the sense that I get to express my wildest sides and connect with people in the process. I love making eye contact and sharing little special moments with strangers as I’m performing music that means so much to me.

8. Must Have – and No-Go in your Wardrobe! – Favorite Fashion Brand and Fragrance?

Here in New York you gotta have a good black leather jacket. And then for me the red doc martens or a pair of fresh Air Jordans can round out almost any look. If I could I’d probably have a whole rack of Jordans because they’re so fresh and versatile and also you can move around in them great which is always key. I grew up playing a lot of basketball so I just have that connection. I’d love to have a Fendi bag. I need a little bag to carry around the city – lost my wallet on the train the other day. Dumb haha. That’s a no-go: keep ahold of your stuff. Fragrance wise I have Aqua Vitae by Maison Francis Kurkdjian – it’s very clean and fresh with a little citrus.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Even before I wanted to be a musician, I wanted to be an astronaut or a space explorer. What’s happening on all those other planets? I wanna know! Part of me is definitely from another galaxy so hopefully I can make it back up there one day 😉
