6 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Warm Weather by Emma Williams

As the sun finally starts to warm up our planet, the time to prepare your house for the warmer weather has finally come. Like various animals and insects, people start to crawl out of their burrows and spend more time outside soaking up the sun. But as days get longer and warmer, there is no time to waste.

When mild spring sun, slowly turns into summer heat, you won’t have time to think about further preparations. Your yard and house need to be all set for these sunny days. In the summer heat, you won’t be able to repair and prepare much, so by then, you need to get your home and yard ready for the warm weather.

1. Clean windows- inside and out

When the sun rays hit your house for the first time in a while, you’ll start to notice all the untidy spots and smudges all over the rooms, especially on the windows. So, you know the time has come for the most hated family activity- spring cleaning!

However, window cleaning can be fun if done the right way. To properly clean windows inside and out, take a paper towel or a clean cloth and get down to business. Mix water, vinegar and dishwashing detergent in a spraying bottle to get the homemade cleaning supply. Window cleaning is important especially in the spring when the sun comes out because it allows sunshine to fully enter your home. Besides that, it’s a source of vitamin D. Additionally, sunrays make any space appear larger, so roll up your sleeves for a family team building activity.

2. Check your attic

Before the heat becomes unbearable to even think about the attic, go up there and search for any possible problems and issues. Before you head up there, make sure to wear the proper protection to protect your skin and face from the insulation and dust.

One of the most common issues is critter nesting (and another reason why you need protection). Firstly, get rid of any animal droppings because they can cause many illnesses such as respiratory problems. After that search the attic for holes that allowed animals and inspects in, and properly seal them. Look for the wet spots that can indicate problems on the roof.

3. Inspect roof and exterior

Mild warm weather is ideal for expecting the exterior and checking the roof. This “inspection” reveals minor issues, that started over winter. If they are not repaired and fixed, they can cause major problems in the following months. Check if all the tiles are at the place or need replacement, and make sure you’re safe while fixing the roof by yourself. Don’t forget to draw the line between the minor flaw you can fix alone and major issue you need to call a professional for.

Once you’ve done fixing your roof, check the rest of the exterior. See if the paint is chirped and refresh it if necessary. Besides that, you can get down to cleaning gutters and removing the debris before the summer rains hit.

4. Get summer tools ready

As the weather gets warmer, people tend to spend more time outdoors. But who would spend their afternoon in the yard that hasn’t been mowed for months while the weed is sticking out from the pavement? Instead of spending the spring stuck inside, get your tools ready on time.

Edger and lawnmowers are the key tools for keeping your yard tidy and neat during warmer days. Don’t forget to inspect them before use. Check if the oil needs changing or check the chords if they run on electricity. Even though these tools are essential, you must not overlook hand tools like shovels, rakes and shears. They are as important, so it’s crucial to clean them regularly. Once you’ve finished using any kind of the tool, make sure to clean and dry them, before sorting, to prevent them from rusting.

5. Service the AC

The Air Conditioner is an inevitable part of fighting against heat. Once the heat becomes unbearable, there is nothing much you can do but get in the house and turn the AC on to cool down. But before the heat gets you, make sure you’ve serviced the AC properly.

When servicing your air conditioner, look out for parts that may not be working with full capacity, or working at all. Also, keep in mind the brand of your appliance. For example, if you have Fujitsu air conditioner, make sure to get only high-quality Fujitsu spare parts that are energy efficient and reliable. Besides that, make sure the parts are installed properly if you want your AC to cool you off during heat waves.

6. Reorganise your wardrobes

Most people don’t have closets large enough to store, both, winter and summer clothing. When the thermometer finally reaches 25 degrees, you can’t walk around wearing a big, fluffy jumper. So, if you want to be prepared for the warm weather, make sure to reorganise your wardrobes.

This is an ideal time to sort out your clothing. Give away anything you no longer wear and recycle anything too small, worn out, or ripped. Make clothing for the warmer weather more accessible, while storing winter hats, scarfs and jumper out of reach. Your wardrobe needs to be ready for warmer weather as well!

Conclusion

Annual preparations for the warm weather should be the habit of every homeowner. You don’t want to risk your family’s health or comfort because you were too lazy to check on the major parts of the house that can cause problems during summer. So, roll your sleeves up and get down to repairing, fixing and servicing everything that needs to be repaired.
