5 Skincare Tips Every Guy Should Follow in 2019 by Peter Minkoff

In case you didn’t know, you don’t have to follow all of your New Year’s resolutions. What is more than enough is actually choosing one or two things from the list and sticking to them as much as you can. Now, this can be working out regularly, trying to improve your diet, or simply taking better care of you face and skin. If the latter is something that you need to work on, then the beginning of this New Year is a great time to start. But, if you’ve never paid attention to the skin of your face that much, that is if you are a newbie in this department, then you probably don’t know what the sins you are making are, or what you need to do in order to keep your face fresh and beautiful. And since this is very important (hey, who wouldn’t want to have a nice face?), this is what you need to know:

1. The Holy Trinity

So, in order not to look like Voldemort throughout the year, it’s very important to know the basics of skincare. Firstly, you need to know the Holy Trinity of skincare: cleansing, moisturizing and exfoliating. This is something that you need to know by heart at any moment of the day, and of course, follow these three steps religiously.

The first thing that you need to do is get yourself a good, high-quality cleanser and clean your face of the unwanted dirt at least two times a day: after waking up and before going to bed. This is followed by a moisturizer that you will, once again, apply to your face twice a day. Do know that there are plenty of moisturizers you can choose from, but it’s very important that you opt for the right one for your face type. Some experts say that it’s recommendable to have different moisturizers for the morning and the night, but if you’re just starting to use them, you might as well use only one for starters. Finally, exfoliating. This is vital as you want to get rid of all the dead cells off your face – bear in mind that this is especially important in winter time, when our skin is prone to cracking.

2. Acne away

One of the biggest skin problems are definitely acne. If you’re experiencing these issues and you have a problematic skin type, it means that you have to pay special attention to the products you’re using – not all of the products that are advertised are good for your skin type. Finding good acne products that are compatible with your skin type is of the utmost importance, and if you cannot determine what kind of products you should be using, you can always go to a dermatologist and let them help you. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, and unless you take this seriously and start using any acne product, you might end up with more problems than now.

3. The lumberjack look

Washing your face regularly is an imperative for everyone, especially for those of you who like growing your facial hair (and since this is extremely popular, there are probably a lot of you). As far as shaving is concerned, you need to use appropriate razors – say goodbye to the cheap razors and electric shavers as they won’t do you any favors except saving you just a bit of money. Moreover, always use a good aftershave in order to hydrate your beard properly and give that extra layer of protection that your beard needs after shaving.

4. Hydrating and styling

If you’re a beardsman, then you already know that shaving is not the only thing that you need to be paying attention to. Yes, this definitely makes or breaks the look of the beard, but there are other factors that you need to consider as well. For example, there is a product that can do wonders for both your beard and your skin underneath it – the almighty beard oil. First of all, this product will make your beard healthier and smoother, which is not only important during winter time, but during the hot summer days as well. Moreover, it moisturizers the skin underneath and hydrates it enough. If you want your beard to be picture-perfect, then this is the product you need to have in your bathroom.

5. Go to the dermatologist

Finally, there is that pretty obvious tip that we often take for granted. Asking for help should never be embarrassing, and if you’re experiencing any problems with your face skin or want to determine what your skin type is, going to the dermatologist seems like an excellent option. They will help you out and tell you what you need to be using and what not, which can sometimes have better results than taking the matter into your own hands – especially if you’re not familiar with the subject. Once there, you can also opt for some of the facial treatments that can help you out tremendously.

Taking proper care of your face is not a difficult task, and if you’re rocking the beard, then taking care of your beard is half the work. Both are equally important, so do us and yourself a favor – follow these tips and you will see the difference in no time!
