10 Essentials Every Guy Should Have in His Kitchen by Peter Minkoff

It’s the 21st century, which means that it’s high time guys had fully equipped kitchens as well. Not only because it’s extremely important for every guy to know how to cook and have everything that he needs, but he could also use this to impress any girl (or boy) he wants. However, many guys don’t actually know what key things they should have in their kitchens, and that’s where we step in. Take a look at the ten most important things any guy should have in his kitchen, starting from the key ingredients for every healthy and good meal, and the utensils that you will definitely use on a daily basis:

Ingredients

1. Chicken stock
One of the most important things that anyone should have in their freezer is chicken. It’s one of the most versatile foods – you can prepare it with pasta, on grill, with soup, in the oven, which makes any lunch preparation very easy. Moreover, chicken is very healthy and full of protein (which is great to have if you’re trying to pump those muscles).

2. Avocado

The most instagrammable food at the moment, avocado, should be in your fridge at all times. It’s an extremely healthy fruit that can be also used as an ingredient for any dish you want to add a bit more interesting texture to. However, make sure not to buy big amounts of avocados in advance, as they can go bad very quickly.

3. Lemons
Is there a better way to start your day than by drinking a glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice? This is why a lemon is a must-have in your fridge as it has many uses. Not only will this drink lift you in the morning, but lemon can give freshness to any dish you want to make. So in order to have your daily intake of vitamin C, always have a couple of lemons in your fridge.

4. Coffee

This is something that most of us have in their kitchen always, and it should remain like that. Having the strongest coffee bean can ensure a successful start of the day. Every morning you wake up, make sure to prepare yourself a strong cup of coffee, as it will make you even readier to start your day. However, don’t think that this type of coffee is good for the beginning of the day only – after an exhausting day, it’s always good to sit back and relax by drinking a strong cup of coffee to get you refreshed.

5. A bottle of wine or whiskey

You never know when you will invite somebody over – but when you do, especially if it’s a romantic date during the weekend, it’s good to have a bottle of good wine. The best option would be to have rose, as that is the type of wine that is loved by either red-wine and white-wine drinkers. If you want something that can last for a longer period of time, make sure to have a bottle of good whiskey – that can never turn bad.

Utensils

6. Chef’s knife
No matter if you’re a good cook or not, having a good knife in your kitchen is probably the most important thing to have (after the cooker, oven and fridge of course). As far as chef’s knives are concerned, you can choose one of the three types of blades that are the most common – the French one (which is also the most common one), the German (which is a continuous curve), or the Japanese type of blade, which is the sharpest. Any of these will do.

7. Mortar and pestle

This might sound unusual, but mortar and pestle can seriously save a lot of time and money on things such as spices. First of all, this means that you can grow your own fresh spices that you will grind them down using mortar and pestle, and it’s also a great thing to have whenever you want to make your own guacamole or salsa sauce.

8. Locking tongs

If you’re a cooking newbie and you want to start eating healthily and preparing your own meat and vegetables, make sure to own a pair of locking tongs which will make the whole process of cooking way easier. They provide the best grip and control, which is definitely important while cooking.

9. Silicone basting brush
Unless you’re a pro at making cakes and cookies, you don’t actually need expensive basting brushes, but then again, it’s something that you simply need to have in your kitchen, as you never know when you will have to use them. A silicone basting brush is first of all very durable and easy to clean.

10. Stainless-steel grater
Imagine you want to make a pizza and you figure out you have nothing to grate your cheese with! That would definitely be a disaster. Cheese graters are something that we all take for granted, not realizing that’s something we will be using very often. And not only for cheese for that matter – you can use graters to grate mushrooms, cucumbers or any other vegetable you want.

The kitchen is an important part of your household, and it’s essential to treat is as such. Having these things in your kitchen will not only make your life easier in different ways, but will also encourage you to eat home-cooked food, which is definitely something we all need to do more often.
